After building his name on BBC One’s The Voice as one half of Merseyside duo The Mac Brothers, Cal McMorran is no stranger to the Liverpool live music scene.
Cal hosts a weekly open mic night every Sunday from 9.30pm at Hannah’s Bar in Liverpool. I’ve been to these nights quite a few times since I found out about Cal ( The two cocktails for £8 has almost nothing to do with it.)
The latest night I went to see Cal perform he had some new additions to his usual set-list, there was Bieber, Bowie and Beatle favourites.
You can always expect a mixture of styles from his gigs, his mash-ups are what makes each of his performances so unique. I bet you don’t know many people that could perform Bewitched-C’est la vie followed effortlessly by Justin Bieber-What do you mean?
Playing the guitar the whole way through his gigs, Cal said his dad was a big influence for him growing up and listening to artists like John Martyn made him want to pick up a guitar and play.
The 25-year-old is due to release an EP this year with all his own material. His talent doesn’t end there, Cal also plays the flute during his gigs, adding his own touch to some classics.
There are a few places in Liverpool you can catch Cal performing:
Mondays: Cavern Club 8pm
Wednesdays: Tavern On The Green 9pm
Sundays: Hannah’s Bar 9.30pm
